Prof. Dr. med. Sven Gottschling, born in Stuttgart in 1971, studied human medicine at the University of Tübingen and completed his final practical year in England and South Africa.

After earning his doctorate in 2000, he became a specialist in pediatric and adolescent medicine as well as pediatric hematology and oncology. He acquired additional qualifications in specialized pain therapy, palliative medicine and acupuncture and completed his habilitation in 2009 on „Komplementäre Behandlungsmethoden in der Pädiatrie“ (complementary treatment methods in pediatrics).

Since 2010 he has been head physician of the Center for Cross-Age Palliative Care and Pediatric Pain Therapy at Saarland University Medical Center in Homburg/Saar, and an adjunct professor since 2014.

He lectures on palliative medicine, pain therapy and acupuncture and developed the palliative medicine curriculum at Saarland University.

Gottschling has published numerous articles on medical cannabis, for example on indications in general practice and the safety of cannabinoid medicines, and has reported on 25 years of experience with cannabis prescriptions in palliative and pain therapy.
